birth signs (though you can still get stones which activate similar abilities) race/gender being an important factor in character creation (I actually miss that) and in-game (Skyrim there's only a few passing comments but with some races in Oblivion some people just dislike your character unless you dump gold in their laps, esp if you're a Nord or Orc) characters are more lifelike with schedules whereas Skyrim's PCs aren't as involving aside from animations less bugs (not as much freezing and crashing) pure mage builds and pure melee builds are viable whereas they lead to frustration in Skyrim However, Oblivion does have features that Skyrim does not have, such as: more branching story paths (though most are one decision or another, at least quests allow for choice here) marriage system (to be honest it's barebones in execution but a start) easier to level up and have focused and hybrid builds better graphics (best character creation this time around) It's easier to level up, has more hands on combat, gets you into the game faster with minimal fuss, and welcoming to both new and experienced players of Elder Scrolls games. In fact Skyrim improves on what a lot of Oblivion had to offer. I like Skyrim better personally because it takes many of the elements that I liked about Oblivion (which made me a fan of the Elder Scrolls in the first place after Morrowind left a bad taste in my mouth).
